Tips For Keeping Your Fence In Great Shape

Posted on

You want to make sure that you are not just keeping your fence in great shape so it looks fantastic, but so it will continue to function properly for you as well. To ensure that this is going to be as easy as possible for you, you may want to study the following information.

Secure The Screws

Over time, even the most well-placed screw can begin to come out of the wood it was put into. As it wiggles free, the stability of your fence will begin to diminish. It could eventually fall apart because of several screws falling out. Therefore, you will want to make sure that you are walking around both sides of your fence and looking for screws that are obviously coming loose. Do that whenever you think about it. Then about once or twice a year you will want to take a wireless drill out to the fence with you and quickly tighten up as many screws as you can. Be sure to not overdo it because you would then risk stripping the screw.

Apply A Protective Sealant To All Metal

Some of the metal parts on a fence may include hinges, brackets, screws, handles, and locks. It is important to remember that metal rusts when it is directly exposed to the elements for too long. Therefore, you will want to find a quality sealant that you can quickly apply to the exposed metal parts on your fence. You may have to reapply this sealant once a year, but the long-lasting protection will be more than worth it.

Immediately Replace Faulty Sections

Over time, even the most well cared for fence will have an issue. The thing is, you need to take immediate action to ensure that the damaged areas are immediately replaced so no further damage happens. The longer you allow the damaged sections to sit there, the more those pieces could pull or drag down the other sections and then you will have a big mess on your hands.

Another thing that you might want to consider is that you may want to hire a fence contractor for any major issues that you have with your fence. This way, you will know that your fence is getting the best possible treatment. And when your fence lasts for a long time, you will not have to worry about the cost of an expensive replacement any time soon.
